Overview

When you stop managing a property, maybe it’s sold, maybe it’s just out of rotation, you don’t need to delete it. In fact, we recommend you don’t. Why? Because past leases, payments, and reports still matter. Instead, just mark the property as inactive. It’ll be hidden from your day-to-day workflow, but still accessible when you need it.

The Steps

Before you can start making a property inactive, you'll need to first make all the units on that property inactive. However, before you can make a unit inactive, you'll need to make sure that there are currently no active leases on it. If there are active leases, you'll need to end all those leases first. Once you do that, making a property inactive only takes a few clicks.

  1. To make a property inactive, click on Rentals on the main menu and then click on Properties.

  2. Find the property you want to make inactive. Once you find the property, click on the 3-dots to the right of the property. A menu will appear. Click Make Inactive.

  3. If you made all the units inactive and ended all the leases beforehand, your property should now be Inactive.

If you get an error message that reads "This property contains active units. Please make those units inactive and try again", that means you need to go back and make sure you make those units on the property inactive and end all leases.

To do this, follow the instructions in the article for How to Make Units Inactive and Ending a Lease.

That's it. Out of sight, not out of reach. Deactivating keeps your data intact while clearing the clutter.
