Make a Property Inactive

Mark a property as inactive to remove it from your day-to-day workflow without deleting its records.

Overview

When you stop managing a property — whether it's sold or simply out of rotation — you don't need to delete it. Marking it inactive instead hides it from your day-to-day workflow while keeping its past leases, payments, and reports fully accessible.

Important: Before you can start making a property inactive, you'll need to first make all the units on that property inactive. However, before you can make a unit inactive, you'll need to make sure that there are currently no active leases on it. If there are active leases, you'll need to end all those leases first. Once you do that, making a property inactive only takes a few clicks.

The Steps

  1. To make a property inactive, click on Rentals > Properties on the main menu.

  2. Find the property you want to make inactive. Once you find the property, click on the 3-dots to the right of the property. A menu will appear. Click Make Inactive.

  3. On the Make Inactive Confirmation popup, click Make Inactive again.

Your property is now inactive. It won't appear in your day-to-day views, but its records remain fully accessible if you need to look something up later.

Note: If you get an error message that reads "This property contains active units. Please make those units inactive and try again", that means you need to go back and make sure you make those units on the property inactive and end all leases.

To do this, follow the instructions in the article for How to Make Units Inactive and Ending a Lease.
