Overview
Can a single tenant have additional leases on their account? The answer to that is yes, you can create additional leases for a single tenant. However, to accomplish this properly, you need to set up each lease using the same tenant profile. This way they can access all their leases with the same tenant portal.
The Steps
The only requirement for a tenant to have multiple leases is that they need to have at least one lease that is already active. This way, their tenant profile is already active and set up.
To create an additional lease for a tenant that already has an existing active lease, click People on the main menu and then click Tenants.
Find and click on the tenant you need to create an additional lease for.
From the tenant's Overview page, click the Leases tab. Then click + New Lease in the upper right corner.
Click + New Lease in the upper right corner.
Go through the New Lease wizard as normal. You'll notice that in the Tenants section, the existing tenant is already selected. Continue with the rest of the New Lease wizard to the end.
Click Save to finish.
That's it. Your tenant should now have an additional lease under their account. If they already had access to the tenant portal, they'll be able to access all their leases on the same portal using the same login and password.
Tip: Repeat the steps above if you need to add any additional leases for the tenant.
Things to Consider
When a single tenant with multiple leases logs in to their tenant portal, they will have the option to choose which lease they want to access. Each lease will have its own separate information, such as a lease ledger and announcements, and options to make payments or submit tenant requests.
When viewing one lease, the tenant can easily switch to another lease to view that information or make a payment on that lease.
The tenant cannot make a single payment on one lease to pay for all their other leases. They will need to make separate payments on each lease so those payments get recorded appropriately for accounting purposes.
