Delete a Deposit Charge from a Lease

Delete a deposit charge — security deposit, pet deposit, or any other liability-type deposit — that was posted by mistake or is no longer needed.

Written by Samuel

Overview

If a deposit charge was posted by mistake, posted for the wrong amount, or is no longer applicable, you can delete it directly from the lease's Transactions tab.

Note: If a payment has already been applied to the deposit charge, deleting the charge will reallocate the payment to another open charge automatically. If there are no other charges to allocate to, the payment is converted to a credit on the lease. The payment itself is not deleted — only the charge.

Note: If the deposit has already been received and you only need to correct the amount, edit the charge instead of deleting it.

The Steps

  1. To delete a deposit charge from a lease, click Leasing > Leases on the main menu.

  2. Find and click on the lease you want to delete a deposit charge on.

  3. On the lease, click the Transactions tab. Find the Security Deposit charge.

  4. Click the 3-dots button on the charge and select Delete.

  5. on the Delete Confirmation window, click Delete to confirm.

The charge is now removed from the lease ledger. You're done!

Tip: If you deleted the charge by mistake, you can re-post it by following Post a Security Deposit Charge to a Lease.
