Delete a Security Deposit Charge from a Lease

Remove a security deposit charge from a lease's ledger when it was posted in error or is no longer needed.

Overview

If a security deposit charge was posted by mistake, posted for the wrong amount, or is no longer applicable, you can delete it directly from the lease's Transactions tab.

Note: If a payment has already been applied to the deposit charge, deleting the charge will reallocate the payment to another open charge automatically. If there are no other charges to allocate to, the payment is converted to a credit on the lease. The payment itself is not deleted — only the charge.

Note: If the deposit has already been received and you only need to correct the amount, edit the charge instead of deleting it.

The Steps

  1. Click Leasing on the main menu and then click Active Leases.

  2. Find the lease and click into it.

  3. Click the Transactions tab and locate the Security Deposit charge.

  4. Click the 3-dots button on the charge and select Delete. [Screenshot: Transactions tab with the 3-dots menu open on a Security Deposit charge, showing the Delete option]

  5. Confirm the deletion.

The charge is now removed from the lease ledger. You're done!

Tip: If you deleted the charge by mistake, you can re-post it by following Post a Security Deposit Charge to a Lease.
