Overview
If an applicant fills out a rental application that doesn't have requesting of screening reports turned on, there are several options you have if you decide that you want to request reports from TransUnion. You can have the prospect submit another rental application after turning on the setting to request TransUnion reports, you can request reports on your end and pay for them, or you can go straight to TransUnion SmartMove to request a report for this applicant.
The Steps
Have the prospect resubmit a new rental application
Update your rental application settings to request TransUnion SmartMove reports. Use the instructions in this linked article to refresh your memory on how to do this.
If you want the applicant to pay for the screening fees, you'll want to use either the Screening Fee or the Customize Fee option with "the application fee will cover the screening report charges" checked.
Have the prospect submit another rental application using the same property rental application link they used before. You can also use the Copy Property Link button again under the Rental Applications section on the Property.
They will have to pay to submit this second rental application.
Cover the screening fees for the applicant
You also have the option to cover the screening fees for the applicant if you did not have background checks initially enabled to automatically download reports. On their Rental Application, go to the Reports section. If their identity was verified, you can request reports here. You will need to pay for these reports either by entering a credit card or using your Merchant Account to pay for it.
Go straight to TransUnion
Your last option is to open an account with TransUnion to request and pay for TransUnion SmartMove reports without the prospect having to resubmit another rental application.
