Pause Rent and Payment Notifications

If you need to pause rent and payment notifications going out to your tenants, here's how you would do that.

Overview

Setting up your Rent and Payment Notifications allows you to automatically send notifications to tenants in regards to their rent and their payments. These are normally automatically sent each month when rent charges are posted and also when tenants make payments online. However, what if you want to pause those notifications for some reason? You can based on how you want to pause them.

The Steps

Pause Rent and Payment Notifications at the Company Default Level

If your properties are all using the default company-level Rent and Payment Notification settings, then you'll want to follow these instructions below:

  1. To pause rent and payment notifications at the company level, first click on Settings on the main menu. Then click the Rent & Payment Notifications button under the Property Settings section.

  2. You'll now be on the Rent & Payment Notifications settings window.

  3. These are the settings you are going to want to turn off:

    • Turn off Send a notification to remind the tenant about an upcoming rent

    • Turn off Send recurring notifications to remind the tenant about overdue rent

    • Turn off Send a notification to the tenant when rent is posted

    • Turn off Send a notification to the tenant when they make an online payment

    • Turn off Send a notification to the tenant when an online payment is returned

  4. Click Save to finish.

If you also want to pause Late Fee notifications, go to Settings > Late Fees. Turn off "Send a reminder one day before late fees will be charged" and "Notify tenants of late fees once charged" under the Advanced Options.

Pause Rent and Payment Notifications for a Specific Property

If you want to only pause Rent and Payment Notifications for a specific property, you'll want to follow these instructions below:

  1. To pause rent and payment notifications on a specific property, first click on Rentals on the main menu. Then click Properties.

  2. Find the Property you want to pause rent and payment notifications on and click it.

  3. Next click the Settings tab and then click the Rent & Payment Notifications button.

  4. On the Rent & Payment Notifications settings window, select the option to "Specify notifications for this property". This will create custom settings for this property that will apply to all the tenants on this property.

  5. These are the settings you are going to want to turn off:

    • Turn off Send a notification to remind the tenant about an upcoming rent

    • Turn off Send recurring notifications to remind the tenant about overdue rent

    • Turn off Send a notification to the tenant when rent is posted

    • Turn off Send a notification to the tenant when they make an online payment

    • Turn off Send a notification to the tenant when an online payment is returned

  6. Click Save to finish.

If you also want to pause Late Fee notifications for this property, click the Late Fees button in the property settings. Select "Specify a late fee structure for this property".

Turn off "Send a reminder one day before late fees will be charged" and "Notify tenants of late fees once charged" under the Advanced Options.

Tip: you may also want to disable Late Fee notifications if you don't want these going out as well. This can be done by going to Settings > Late Fees and also at the property and lease level.
